The butterfly house in Bordano Lake Cavazzo
The House of Butterflies is a corner of tropical forest in Friuli Venezia Giulia. It is the largest exhibition of live butterflies and insects in Italy, with 1,000 square metres of heated greenhouses and an equal number of exhibitions and workshops
The House of Butterflies is located in an area extremely rich in biodiversity, between the Tagliamento River, Lake Cavazzo and Mount San Simeone, in the transition zone between the pre-Alpine landscape and that of the high Friulian plain. Due to its geomorphological peculiarities, the area around Bordano has always been home to a large number of native butterflies (over 100 diurnal and 500 nocturnal species), making the locality a true open-air laboratory, which can be explored along easy equipped trails.
It is a magical place for children and adults where you can see different butterflies in three large gardens (Amazonian, Afro-tropical Indo-Australian) in which over 400 of the world's most beautiful butterflies fly, feed and reproduce.
There are also species of other small animals, to discover and to look for. The museum is enriched by explanatory exposition and a special exhibition on living mimicry.
